ಪ್ರಗತಿಶೀಲ ಚಿಂತಕ - ಅ. ನ. ಕೃ

ಕನ್ನಡ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯ ಸಾರ್ವಭೌಮರೆಂದೆ ಪ್ರಖ್ಯಾತರಾಗಿದ್ದ ಶ್ರೀ ಅ.ನ.ಕೃಷ್ಣರಾಯರು (ಅ. ನ. ಕೃ ೧೯೦೮ - ೧೯೭೧) ಬಹುಮುಖ ಬರಹಗಾರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬರು. ಅವರ ಶತಮಾನೋತ್ಸವ ವರ್ಷಾಚರಣೆ ಸಂಧರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ, ಅವರ ಕುಟುಂಬ ಹಾಗು ಸ್ನೇಹಿತ ಬಳಗದವರು ೧೯೩೫ ರಲ್ಲಿ ರಚಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ 'ಸಂಧ್ಯಾ ರಾಗ' ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯನ್ನು ಅಳವಡಿಸಿ ಅದೇ ಹೆಸರಿನ MP3 ರೂಪಾಂತರದ ಆಡಿಯೋ ಬುಕ್ ಅನ್ನು , ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಹಾಗು ನಾಟಕ ಪ್ರೇಮಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಬಿಡುಗಡೆ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

Sandhya Raaga portrays the life of an idealistic musician, Lakshmana Rao in a middle class social setting and his search for the ultimate truth in music. Lakshmana is the antithesis of contemporary belief that an individual is molded by desire to accumulate wealth and wordly pleasures. Right from failing in academic studies at young age to not wanting to earn wealth, he is in part realized by the choices he makes in pursuit of excellence in music. Essentially, Anakru's protagonist defines himself not from his social upbringing, or economic class in his village, or his caste or his family, but from divine musical tunes and ragas. One can't help but remember Ayn Rand's Howard Roark with his free will and belief that he can control his life by the virtue of the choices he makes. However, Anakru's Lakshmana chooses instead to just travel in search of purity in music with a stirring undercurrent of events affecting his life, but yet plays by the social rules of dignity, respect and reality.

ಸಂಧ್ಯಾ ರಾಗ ಚಿತ್ರದ ಒಂದು ಹಾಡು "ನಂಬಿದೆ ನಿನ್ನಾ ನಾದ ದೇವತೆ"

೧೯೨೧ರಲ್ಲಿ 'ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ಗೀತೆಗಳು' ಎಂಬ ಆಂಗ್ಲ ಪದ್ಯಗಳ ರುಪಾಂತರನ್ನು ರಚಿಸುವುದರ ಮೂಲಕ ಶ್ರೀ ಬಿ ಎಂ ಶ್ರೀಕಂಠಯ್ಯನವರು ಆಧುನಿಕ ಕನ್ನದ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ (modern kannada literarure) ಅಡಿಪಾಯವನ್ನು ಹಾಕಿದರು. ಇದೇ ಗಳಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ ಒಂದು ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಬರವಣಿಗೆಯ ಶೈಲಿಯೇ - 'ಕಾದಂಬರಿ'. ಆ ಶೈಲಿಯ ಬರವಣೆಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾಶ್ಚಾತ್ಯ ಪ್ರಭಾವವಿದ್ದರೂ ಇರಬಹುದೆಂದು ಕೆಲವು ಚರಿತ್ರಕಾರರ ಹೇಳಿಕೆ. ೧೯೧೫ರಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಕಟವಾದ ಎಂ. ಎಸ್. ಪುಟ್ಟಣ್ಣರವರ 'ಮಾಡಿದ್ದುಣ್ಣೋ ಮಹರಾಯ' ಪುಸ್ತಕವು ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಇತಿಹಾಸದಲ್ಲಿನ ಮೊಟ್ಟ ಮೊದಲ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯೆಂದು 'The Growth of the Novel in India' ಪುಸ್ತದಲ್ಲಿ, ಎಲ್. ಎಸ್. ಶೇಷಗಿರಿ ರಾವ್ ಬರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇನ್ನು ಕೆಲವರು, ಮೈಸೂರು ಮಹಾರಾಜ ಮುಮ್ಮಡಿ ಕೃಷ್ಣರಾಜ ವೊಡೆಯರ್ ರವರ ಆಳ್ವಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಶಾಕದತ್ತರ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಗ್ರಂಥ "ಮುದ್ರರಕ್ಷಸ" ದಿಂದ ಪ್ರೇರಿತಗೊಂಡ ಕೆಂಪು ನಾರಾಯಣರ "ಮುದ್ರಮಂಜುಷ" ಎಂಬ ಕೃತಿಯು ಕನ್ನಡದ ಮೊದಲ ಕಾದಂಬರಿ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುವುದೂ ಉಂಟು (ref. Modern Kannada Literature).

೧೯೨೫ರ ನಂತರದ ವರ್ಷಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸುವರ್ಣಯುಗವೆಂದೆ ಕರೆಯಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ 'ನವೋದಯ ಕ್ರಾಂತಿ'''ಯ ಮೂಲಕ (The Renaissance Movement) ಕನ್ನಡ ಭಾಷೆ ಹಾಗು ಲೇಖನವು ಪ್ರಖ್ಯಾತಗೊಂಡಿತು. ನವೋದಯ ಕವಿಗಳ ಹಾಗು ಸಾಹಿತಿಗಳ ಸಾಲು ಒಂದೇ ಎರಡೆ.. ಕುವೆಂಪು, ಬೇಂದ್ರೆ, ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಹಲವಾರು ಹೆಸರಾಂತ ಸಾಹಿತಿಗಳು ನವೋದಯ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಉನ್ನತ ಶಿಖರಕ್ಕೆ ಕೊಂಡೊಯ್ದರು. ಇವರ ಮಧ್ಯೆ, ಕಾದಂಬರಿ ಹಾಗು ಕನ್ನಡ ಲೇಖನ ಜಗತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ, ಸರಳ ಆದರೆ ಉತ್ಕಟ ಬರವಣಿಗೆಯ ಶೈಲಿಯು ಜನನವಾಗಿ ಜನಪ್ರಿಯವಾಗತೊಡಗಿತು. ಈ ಸಾಮನ್ಯ ಜನರಿಗಾಗಿಯೆಂದೆ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ದವಾದ 'ಪ್ರಗತಿಶೀಲ' (progressive school of writing) ಲೇಖನಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರವರ್ತಕರು ಯಾರು ಗೊತ್ತೇ? ಅವರೇ ಶ್ರೀ 'ಅ. ನ. ಕೃ'...ಕನ್ನಡವನ್ನು ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರಿಗೆ ತಲುಪಿಸಿದ ಕನ್ನಡಿಗ.

Shri Sheshagiri Rao writes "Progressive writer Anakru demanded that literature should become an instrument of social revolution and unveil the naked truth of contemporary life."
